Julia Chi

My name is Julia Chi…
I have been running all of my life – it feels I was born to run.
In the running step I experienced freedom and my true expression.
I came to see that I needed to ‘get out of the way of myself’ and let my energy flow through the running step; allow it to express itself in the dance and the motion of running.

I have lived from a belief that all that is required is that I know myself, and that I am true to myself, and seek to become the master of my body and my mind… That from this place I allow my true nature to shine and reflect in my creative endeavours and within my relationships.
An ongoing journey…!

I knew from when I was young that all I needed to do was to ‘run free’. To let the running take me where it wanted to. To stay in the step. To be in the moment and so to experience running as a meditation on the move.

I ran for England and GB for some years. My first international was in 1979, a three mile cross country race; and I continued to run at international level until 1993. Two of my best results were first place in the Dublin City Marathon in 1985 and 7th place woman, 3rd British woman in the 1986 London Marathon in a time of 2.36.31, which gained me selection for the Commonwealth Games.

Follow What Resonates

A run round a rather rainy Richmond park was an absolute delight… It was also a running thoroughfare ! I was taken back to thirty five years ago, my first run around this beautiful place… No set pathway then, and we passed not one other runner… The deer were evident though, deer, muddy path ways…

The Path Reveals Itself

This morning Hassan made us coffee and tea, which were ready for us when we appeared at 7.30am… We had a last photo call with him pouring the tea in traditional style from a great height… We had said goodbye to Nadia and Lamina yesterday, but ten minutes before we left the doorbell rang and…

The Magic of Marrakech

As I finished my intervals today, and was jogging back to meet Jamal and Anadi on the dusty sunny parkland that I have become accustomed too, I passed two camels, they were ‘humping’, as Jamal described their union, in a very relaxed fashion… Their owner was standing a discreet distance away, and they seemed very…

My Unchanging Self

I am sitting in the sun on a roof terrace in Morocco high up in the Atlas Mountains… My shoulders are aching and my bottom muscles are stiff… The back of my nose is scratchy and my eyes feel quite heavy… This is the result of living and training in a land where the air…

The Journey of Life

11,000 of us chose to meet on New Year’s Eve in Barcelona to go for a run together… Quite a thing, a huge group of people running around the streets of Barcelona as the sun set on 2015. As humans we appear to like meeting in groups to do things together… Queuing to do things,…

Namaste

As Anadi and I travel the globe we meet different people all the time; on planes and trains… On buses and at the car hire desks… In queues and in shops, and out on the running track… Everywhere we turn, there are hundreds and hundreds of souls… Whilst we sit at airports, and on boats,…
