Julia Chi

My name is Julia Chi…
I have been running all of my life – it feels I was born to run.
In the running step I experienced freedom and my true expression.
I came to see that I needed to ‘get out of the way of myself’ and let my energy flow through the running step; allow it to express itself in the dance and the motion of running.

I have lived from a belief that all that is required is that I know myself, and that I am true to myself, and seek to become the master of my body and my mind… That from this place I allow my true nature to shine and reflect in my creative endeavours and within my relationships.
An ongoing journey…!

I knew from when I was young that all I needed to do was to ‘run free’. To let the running take me where it wanted to. To stay in the step. To be in the moment and so to experience running as a meditation on the move.

I ran for England and GB for some years. My first international was in 1979, a three mile cross country race; and I continued to run at international level until 1993. Two of my best results were first place in the Dublin City Marathon in 1985 and 7th place woman, 3rd British woman in the 1986 London Marathon in a time of 2.36.31, which gained me selection for the Commonwealth Games.

A Sense of Timelessness

As we left the campus of the University of Bath yesterday, Bill Valentine, who was the course director for the Masters National Cross Country Championships called to Anadi… ‘Look after her; don’t let her go astray…’ We all laughed and then he added… ‘Actually that’s too hard a job…!’ I first met Bill in 1982…

My Life is My Creation

Saturday afternoon… I am sipping peppermint tea in a coffee shop – there is a notice on the wall ‘You can’t buy happiness but you can buy coffee and it’s pretty close…’ ‘I agree with that’ I laughed with Anadi… I feel quite coffee’d up at the moment… (Hence the peppermint tea!) And so it…

Running Free

Flying again, through the air, five miles high… With a whole 4.5 hours ahead… I love this time so much… Between worlds… Life between lives… Each new place we land, is like a new life… Since we left the UK, just one month ago, we have lived in Gozo with Jamie, Pru and Jane and…

Independently Together

Jamie is drawing, Anadi is on his computer and I am writing… Companionable silence; all of us looking forward to our anniversary feast… Today we ran across the island to Xlendi… We even intended a dip in the sea on arrival, but the swell was huge against the rocks, the waves crashing on the beach…

Anything is Possible

Jane and I took photos of one another waving and waving… I was standing on the quay and she was on the ferry, sailing away from Gozo island… She’d like to come back she said, to this shiny little pearl of bright energy right in the middle of the Mediterranean Sea …. Back at the…

Just Being

Jane and I sat high up on the cliff top, the sea blue with white horses dancing on it below. We were on Gozo island… We sat cross legged opposite one another and chanted the seven main chakra energy centres in the body… After the echoes of the crown chakra sound had faded away, we…

Eternal Friendship

Anadi and I headed out of Eastbourne just after 5.30 yesterday afternoon… We were excited to be on our way to meet my nephew Jamie who had already arrived at Gatwick and checked into the Premier Inn… I texted him to let him know we on our way and then turned to Anadi ‘What an…
