Children are a Central Part of my Work

Sat Tony SamaraChildren are a central part of my work. I believe that if we work with children, we can change the world much more than working with adults.

Firstly, it is important to create true boundaries for children without being negative, without instilling in them the fear that they will not be successful, or use this to socialise them. It has to come from the true system of values, which I call love. Everything must lead to love, and the only way that happens is if parents work on themselves.

Generally, when you have children you do things in a completely different way from what you think you are doing. Having children is one thing and thinking about having children is another: you have ideals. But once we have children we tend to regress – not me, but I saw many people around me return to old ways of doing things instead of following their ideals.

Sometimes people don’t live their dreams with the children. Having children is an intense process. You need to give them the opportunity to express their creative intelligence, rather than repressing or socialising, but within a real limit where this knowledge can be contained and expressed in a real way.

Secondly, I do not believe that it is good to let the children do what they want.  If we do that then the children will become confused and insecure. In native societies clear boundaries are created which allow that creativity to go somewhere – no need to say “you must be this or that”, but say that they have to use their energy to find what it is they want to do. So for example if the child is an artist, you cannot say “forget it, it’s better to be a doctor.”

The boundaries where the respect for the individual, its capabilities and its centre is more important than the projection of the insecure little baby dressed up in beautiful clothes, without seeing what is important. Some people are very good at this – nurturing the qualities of the child so that these will remain for a lifetime.
