Energetic Balance and Cultural Clutter
A while back, I was talking about clearing the energy bubble. I often make the comparison of the energy bubble, to the proverbial junk drawer. The place where we accumulate.. well.. clutter. And as a home-owner, I have a keen understanding and appreciation of the law of physics- nature abhors a vacuum. Years ago, I cleared out my mother’s house, after almost 40 years of habitation. Some of it awesome, valuable, interesting- some nostalgic. But much of it- completely unused.
As I wrote that, I began to wonder if I should have an intense spring cleaning.. a house-clearing, so to speak… What creatures of clutter and possessions we become once we become sedentary… almost a mini-evolutionary replication. Just like the developing fetus goes through all the evolutionary phases, from tadpole-ish thing through all the other evolutionary phases, to become a human infant… oi!
So yes- sometimes my posts become messages to myself, as well. 🙂 I had a housemate a while back, who had just spent a year doing research down in the Amazon- all she had was what she carried in her backpack- and within the first month of being here, would look around her room with an amazement at how much “stuff” she now had.. not necessarily a good or bad response, although probably a little dismayed– once we have stuff, we are nowhere near as nimble, as free, our “things” tie us down to a place and a mindset, or way of life..
So I suppose that culturally and energetically we are reflecting some dynamic that is essentially the same thing. Do we, in modern western culture, come from a place of lack? Older cultures and tropical cultures live in an environment where their environment provides for them daily- throughout the year. We, in the west- must save and store. Do we live with a worry that there might not be more in the future? Or maybe not living in the moment- or “with the seasons?” There is a good cookbook- Eating with the Seasons. And there is a lot of truth in the idea- our bodies are evolved to need what is available naturally. Fresh greens that detox, first thing up in the Spring. Fruits and veggies throughout the summer, heavier fruits and squash in the fall, and root veggies and tubers, heavier foods through the winter.
SO why have we left that so far behind? Is it maybe not trusting to live in the moment…? interesting question. Have we just forgotten what it is like, to live in sync with our native environments?..
What might that look like? And would we feel better, if we tried less to have what we think we WANT, and balance our needs with our environments..? Reconnect with our surroundings, and discover what it provides and how it gives us what we need, if we utilise those resources?
And how much is this a dynamic that we embody on the personal level also? To what extent do we disown our gifts- often at very young ages… for the sake of conformity? Do we learn to value what someone else is, does, or has– over our own native talents?
And what is the connection between these things?
I might have to sit with this one for a bit– and I will be curious to hear what everyone else has to say on this…please share in the comments. 🙂 Thanks
I am an Education Specialist, Health Coach and Author. I work with aspects of the teachings I have learned from Andean shamanic and cosmology, to health, nutrition and education. Everything is energy. Energy must flow. Like water, when it does not flow, it stagnates and is not healthy. These techniques help your life to flow. I have been initiated into many of the ancient lineages and learned ceremonies, rites of passage and healing techniques. I have worked as a healer and done workshops and taught some of these aspects – passing the teachings on.
