What Are the Options for Working for Yourself

posted in: Business 0

Ann PeckhamAn interesting definition of an entrepreneur:

They are willing to do today what others won’t so that they can do tomorrow what others can’t.

The four traditional ways of working for yourself and their pitfalls

  1. You can buy an existing business: that can be expensive and you need to ask yourself “Why are they selling this?”
  2. You can buy a Franchise: this is a little less risk as it has a proven system; but this can be very, very expensive.
  3. You can start something from scratch: this is where many people think  “I don’t have the money” “I don’t have the product idea” “I don’t have the expertise” and “I can’t risk my families well-being to do this”
  4. You could become an investor: you have to be pretty smart with that game; eg. Venture Capitalists (these are top investors) succeed in 1 out of every 11 which means that even these very smart investors fail 10 out of every 11. And Angel Investors are lucky to get 1 out of every 15 or 20.

All of these take time, money, expertise and a lot of work. Far too much for one person to do on their own; you would need a team of experts to make it work.

The success rate in the restaurant business is that 90% fail within the first year!

What if there was a way that has a proven product, a proven system and proven training?

85% of purchases are made on recommendation of “word of mouth”

Donald Trump and Robert Kiyosaki have together written a book called “The Midas Touch” why some entrepreneurs get rich and most don’t. Specifically –entrepreneurs who create the most jobs and who serve the most people are the ones who win.

One of the major advantages of network marketing is the low entry cost, ease of entry and low risk. Everything else has a very high risk.

Instead of having to work your way up to prove yourself capable of being a sales manager, network marketing just decided that everyone could build a team from day one.

Network marketing is the ONLY system that does not say that your past determines your future. Instead it says “What can we train you to do so that you will have a great future?”

Every other employer want to exploit you for what you already know.

Network marketing is going to save the world because it is going to teach people how to be entrepreneurs not employees!

The growth over the past 15 to 20 years has really raised the profile of network marketing.

The sector has $178,000,000,000 per annum in retail sales. Compare that to the perceived highest grossing industries;

Music industry; $16,000,000,000 per annum

Movie industry; $80,000,000,000 per annum

Network Marketing pays their distributors about 40% of that in commissions

  • $71,000,000,000 per year in commissions
  • $6,000,000,000 per month
  • $200,000,000 per day

There are about 500 people world-wide who earn about $2,000,000 per year- that is $1,000,000,000 per year. This takes the $71 billion down to $70 billion.

The vast majority therefore goes to part-timers who make anything from a few hundred per month to thousands per month.

There are 98 million around the world who are network marketers and 82% report a good experience with it.

People get hung up on the false idea that it is a pyramid.

Corporate America is a pyramid, only one person will ever be at the top with everyone else at the bottom.

Network Marketing is an inverse pyramid with everyone who enters having the opportunity to raise to the CEO position of their own team.

In the past people used to get loaded up with products in Network Marketing that they couldn’t sell. It was called “Front Loading”. But today it is all done by computer direct mail, all done on time.

Do not confuse people’s opinions with expertise and don’t confuse sincerity with truth, because people can be sincerely wrong.

The reality in Network Marketing is that the vast majority become customers so that they can purchase the products at a reduced price. Costco is an example: nobody says that they are losers when they walk out of Costco with a smile on their face and a basket full of discounted products.

But people will say that, when someone is buying from a Network marketing company at a reduced price, and they are not earning an income so they must be losers. No they are just satisfied customers.

Some go on to make an income of £2-300 and some $1,000 to $2,000 per month that is the bulk of Network Marketers.

There are a few who will take it seriously and make it really big.

The main problem people have in NM is that they become desperate to recruit everyone as customers and distributors and they become clingy. So they make outrageous claims about the products and tell people that they don’t have to do anything.

You do not need to over promise. It will take time and work.

Most people still don’t understand it. The uneducated will think less of you.

But if you can face that catch, you will be unstoppable.

Contemplate this:

  1. You are in a job, you probably have a mortgage so you have debt. You are in prison!
  2. You work hard enough to keep them from firing you and they pay you just enough to keep you from quitting.

In Network Marketing if you run into failure it’s just homework for you. There is no-one to blame!

In the beginning you are going to do a lot of things you don’t get paid for, but in the long-term you are going to get paid for lots of things you don’t do!
