Julia Chi

My name is Julia Chi…
I have been running all of my life – it feels I was born to run.
In the running step I experienced freedom and my true expression.
I came to see that I needed to ‘get out of the way of myself’ and let my energy flow through the running step; allow it to express itself in the dance and the motion of running.

I have lived from a belief that all that is required is that I know myself, and that I am true to myself, and seek to become the master of my body and my mind… That from this place I allow my true nature to shine and reflect in my creative endeavours and within my relationships.
An ongoing journey…!

I knew from when I was young that all I needed to do was to ‘run free’. To let the running take me where it wanted to. To stay in the step. To be in the moment and so to experience running as a meditation on the move.

I ran for England and GB for some years. My first international was in 1979, a three mile cross country race; and I continued to run at international level until 1993. Two of my best results were first place in the Dublin City Marathon in 1985 and 7th place woman, 3rd British woman in the 1986 London Marathon in a time of 2.36.31, which gained me selection for the Commonwealth Games.

Trusting the Way…

We have had such a wonderful day… My team – Anadi, Tim and Poppy the dog – completed walk 15 of the Sussex Hospices Trail… The whole of the 200 mile trail, which circumperambulates the 12 hospices in Sussex, was walked today – or run as well in our case –  by 26 teams… Each…

Paso a Paso…

A shiny September morn greeted me when I drew back the curtains and prepared to say ‘Hello’ live to my friends on Facebook… I am loving ‘connecting in’ and sharing the events of another week… A week that brings me nearer to the day I set off from Suances on the north coast of Spain…

Time Travel…

Journeying back in time, I drove down the road I used to drive up – much too fast as an 18 year old! – every day for work… And the road I used to pad down in my green flash gym shoes, having got off the bus to run the last bit of the journey…

Journeying Back in Time….

We left a sunny shiny Provence, the light streaking across the rows of grapevines, and open expanse of green brown fields; sky blue, the clouds in sight – fluffy white… As we hugged Stuart and Sue goodbye, we said ‘We’ll see you somewhere… Maybe Edinburgh next’ – (where they live in the UK) – ‘or…

Freedom…

Today as I was on one of my traditional loops here from my brother’s home, barefoot now of course – when a man in a lorry stopped… I thought he was going to ask the way but I was wrong – he was checking I was okay… The weather was a bit cold and perhaps…

Experiencing our True Nature

Another sunny warm day, the golden light flashing over the hills in Marseilles – rising around us as we ran earlier today… The ocean stretching as far as the eye can see… Lands mingling, memories of San Sebastian as we passed by wall with the waves crashing and splashing the road… A feel of Spain,…

Shiny Sunny Day…

I rose early and set off on another shiny sunny September sojourn alone in the lanes, the acorns and mulchy leaves, branches, gravelly gnarly asphalt making me very glad I had chosen to wear my skinner socks… I padded round the lanes feeling a little like I had forgotten to put my shoes on; but…

Focus… The Secret…

Another golden day dawned… Anadi came with me today, and because my feet felt a little tender from yesterday’s ouchie run, I was keen to stay on the softer terrain… We ran up the drive, to the long grassy muddy hill behind the church in Buxted Park, which leads to the lakes. As we approached…
