Are You Stuck in Your Sad Story?

Everybody has a sad story to tell. Everybody has experienced loss, pain, fear, lack and heartache -sometimes all at the same time!

You never have to look very hard to find a pity party or a whinge-fest or a place to compare scars and swap horror stories.

However, if you’re alive and aware enough to be reading this, whatever has happened in your past has not destroyed you. No doubt you have been supplied with ample reasons to choose to continue to live with loss, fear, pain, lack or heartache but if you care – and dare – to look closely enough, you will find that you have always been equally supplied with an abundance of reasons to choose to feel love, happiness and joy.

The key word is ‘choose’. Will you choose to recite the miserable, depressing, downbeat version or will you choose instead to focus on all the things – no matter how small and seemingly insignificant – that are and always have been right about your life?

That choice is yours. In every moment.

Every situation offers a lesson. Every difficulty carries the seeds of opportunity. Many of us are programmed to look only at the difficulty and never recognize the opportunity. But that also is a choice, and you are the only person who can ever have the power to choose to make better choices for yourself.

Are you choosing to stay stuck in your story of negative experiences, playing them on a loop in your mind?

You don’t have to.

You can choose -right now and every time you feel yourself sucked back into that vortex of blame, shame and guilt – to look for the beauty, the lessons, the opportunities and all the amazing gifts hiding just under the surface, waiting to be discovered.

In 2015, I set up Horses Connect, a non-profit company based in the West of Ireland dedicated to helping people of all ages, with all kinds of life and other challenges.  After a colorful and adventurous life (career-wise)  I now work with people and horses. I teach and I learn – boy, do I learn!

Horses connect us to our true value and full potential in a unique and powerful way and it is my privilege to facilitate that connection. We design a range of equine-assisted programs for individuals and groups, and our equine team help us deliver those programs.

I am particularly interested in personal development and was blogging about the topic long before blogging became popular, or profitable.

I have a Masters in Writing from NUI, Galway and tons of other random qualifications.
