Why Should You Use a Menstruation Cup?

John OsborneLet us start here with how ladies today are the target of what I call “the medical industry”. It is the most powerful industry in the world, bigger even than petroleum, but seems to have a similar ethos; that of pollution. It is not the atmosphere the medical industry pollutes, it is our bodies. And the sanitary towel/tampon industry is in the forefront, if what is published can be believed. Most ladies will use somewhere near 20,000 tampons or towels in their lives, more if they are on any oestrogen therapy. That adds up to a huge amount of money. It also adds up to an even greater amount of risk to their health. And here is why.

Because towels and tampons are not ingested, they are not subject to the rules which apply to things taken by mouth. We who are occupied in improving the health of our clients in natural health are required to stipulate exactly what is in our products, taken orally or to put on the skin. Not so the tampon/towel industry whose products, described as “medical appliances”, and which are applied to the tenderest, bare skin.

Towels and tampons are a far more risky thing altogether, much more so than anything taken orally, which is broken down in the digestive system, unless of course it is highly toxic. But anything applied to the skin, and in the case of towels & tampons, a very delicate part of our bodies, there are no digesting enzymes to destroy harmful matter; the toxins applied from tampons and towels, externally or internally, are rapidly absorbed by the body.

What do we know of what goes into towels and tampons?

  • They can include, of course, bleach, chlorine, which is used to give them that “lovely white finish” and/or any of the following, probably all.
  • They contain what is estimated to be the equivalent of several plastic bags! Yes plastic in your pad and tampon. (If you do not believe me, try burning one or two different ones and see if you get black smoke!)
  • They contain plasticising chemicals like BPA and/or BPS;
  • Tampons contain Phthalates to give them their “slipperyness”; it’s the same stuff as the lino industry uses to give it its glossy finish and is the cause of gene suppression.
  • And by the way, the chlorine in pads and tampons, and anywhere else you encounter it, is a source of dioxin which collects in your fatty tissues and is acknowledged to be unsafe for humans.
  • And at the bottom of it all they are cotton – well treated in the manufacturing process with dangerous chemicals. But what about the cotton itself? Only in very rare cases is the cotton of good quality; over 90% of the worlds cotton is produced by GM chemicals and pesticides.

This very short list of what is used in tampons and sanitary towels is far from all inclusive. One blogger I read calls it “ a ticking time bomb”. I believe it is far, far worse; it is a deliberate attempt to create a market for their ever more poisonous chemicals; they call them drugs.
