3 Essential Steps to Success, Health & Happiness – Step 2 Intentions

Do you know that 80% of people don’t stick to their New Year resolutions beyond the first week of January. WOW! I knew the failure rate was high but that really surprised me.

Do you make New Year resolutions? What’s your rate of success – any better than this?

Often we make resolutions based on what we ‘should’ do rather than on something we are truly committed to.

The trouble with resolutions is that they tend to be a bit vague which makes it much easier to let your good intentions lapse. If you set specific goals, with clear targets for what you want to achieve and when, it will be much easier to stay on track.

It’s very important to start a new year with clear intentions as an essential step in manifesting the outcomes you desire, and here is a much more empowered way than the traditional approach to New Year resolutions.

 

Get Ready

I’m going to repeat some of the points Step 1 from to set you up for a successful session and to remind you of the areas of your life to consider.

So, here we go..

Before you start, choose a quiet place to work and a time when you won’t be interrupted. Assemble everything you need before you start – have a notebook and pen to record your thoughts (don’t do this on your computer as it is too easy to be distracted), something to drink and anything else that will help you focus without interruption.

Start by taking some deep breaths to relax yourself and focus completely on this task in the present moment. If your mind starts to wander, just bring it back into focus by concentrating on your breathing which will block out the intruding thoughts.

As you go through this process, here’s a reminder of the key areas of your life to think about, and add any others that are important to you.

  • Professional/Business
  • Health and Well-being
  • Relationships
  • Money/Finance
  • Self-Development
  • Spiritual Life

 

Follow Your Heart

This step is completely about following your heart. I can’t stress this strongly enough. This is an opportunity to develop your intuition and feel into what is right for you. The role of your logical mind is to support your intuition not to overrule it!

Now complete each stage of the process, investing quality time and focused attention until you’re happy with your results.

  1. Your Vision and Purpose
    This is where you create or review your long-term plans – for the next 5 years (and possibly beyond). If you already have a vision aligned with your life purpose, now is the time to review it and either confirm it or make any adjustments based on your achievements and experiences in the past 12 months.
    If you’re still trying to discover your life purpose (and we know this is a challenge for many of you), we’ve released an e-course with the tools and training you need to uncover your soul and life purpose. For now, just sit quietly and ask the Divine Universe for guidance on what you are here to do and how you can be of service. Jot down any ideas that come to you that you feel comfortable with.
  2. Intentions and Outcomes
    In Step 1, you were asked to make a list of things you wanted to achieve in the last year but didn’t. If you achieved everything in that time give yourself a big pat on the back. I hope you had a big celebration!
    If, like most of us, there were things you didn’t achieve, now’s the time to consider if they’re still important. If they are, put them on your list of intentions.
    Now add the new outcomes you intend to achieve this year.
    Before you move on to the 3rd stage, review your list and make sure that the intentions you’ve listed are contributing to your vision and purpose. It is really important to focus on the things that are in alignment with your purpose and moving you in the right direction so that you don’t waste time and energy. You need to feel that they’re the right things to do.
  3. Milestones
    In Step 3 we’ll move on to detailed planning, so here we just want to record some high level targets for achieving the outcomes on your list.
    This is also a first pass at assessing what are realistic goals for you to achieve.
    Write a list of the months of the year down the page and then assign each outcome to a month. As you do so, consider the following:
    • Priority – assign the most important outcomes first before you assign the less important ones.
    • Sequence – if one outcome is dependent on another make sure you have them in the right order.
    • Time – how much time will you need to achieve this outcome?

Remember, this is just a high-level view so don’t get bogged down and go with whether the milestones feel achievable.

 

Finish With Focus on Self-Love and Gratitude

Before you finish, put down your notebook and sit quietly for a few minutes. Breathe deeply, relax and feel into the gratitude for the inspired ideas that will lead to an outstanding year. Love yourself and look forward to the amazing outcomes you’ll achieve.

Love yourself for committing to this process and believe that this is going to be your best year ever.
