So much has happened in the last year, on a personal, global and cosmic level. There is no doubt in my mind that we are experiencing the continuing process of conscious evolution, individually and on a global level.
Challenges as Catalysts for Growth
Bill and I recently watched the DVD of The Beach Boys 50th Anniversary Tour and he mentioned how gratifying it must be for all the members of the band to have done such a wonderful tour after all the many challenges they’d faced over the years.
Bill’s comment was another reminder that most, if not all, the great musicians, actors, business leaders, artists, writers, political leaders have faced incredible challenges on their path to success. We tend to see the end result and not the struggles along the way, but the struggles have been an essential part of their success, equipping them with the experience and strength of character to fulfill their purpose in spite of the many obstacles along the way.
Each challenge provides us with the choice to either give up on our vision or to carry on regardless.
There’s a great line in the movie ‘Forrest Gump’ (one of our favorites) “Don’t you just love New Year’s? You can start all over. Everyone gets a second chance”
I’d like to help you start the New Year with clear intentions for conscious creation so you can achieve a perfect year of success, health, happiness and abundance.
Set Yourself Up For A Perfect year in 3 Steps
Here are the 3 essential steps to creating a magnificent year of success, health, happiness and abundance:
Step 1 – Review your achievements and challenges in the past year
Step 2 – Set your intentions for this year
Step 3 – Create your plan for success
We’ll cover each step in a separate article, so let’s get started now with Step 1.
Step 1 – Review of last year
At this time of year, virtually every newspaper includes a review of the significant events of the past 12 months.
This is your opportunity to do the same with every aspect of your life. Follow the steps below to review each area of your life in turn.
Before you start, choose a quiet place to work and a time when you won’t be interrupted. Assemble everything you need before you start – have a notebook and pen to record your thoughts (don’t do this on your computer as it is too easy to be distracted), something to drink and anything else that will help you focus without interruption.
Start by taking some deep breaths to relax yourself and focus completely on the task in the present moment. If your mind starts to wander, just bring it back into focus by concentrating on your breathing which will block out the intruding thoughts.
For each stage of this process, here are some key areas of your life to think about, and you can add any others that are important to you.
- Health and Well-being
- Spiritual Life
Ready? Here we go…
- List your achievements.
Think about each area in turn and list everything you’ve achieved working from the beginning of the year to the present moment. Focus on recording every positive achievement. It is the small steps that create the distance travelled. You’ll be surprised at how much you’ve achieved during the year.
Before you move on to the next stage, take a few minutes to consciously anchor the good feelings about who you are and what you’ve done. You are amazing, you are successful, you are an achiever.
- List the things you wanted to achieve but didn’t.
It’s very important to approach this step with neutrality and acceptance and not to become self-critical or judgmental. This is not about failure, it is about identifying tasks and goals to carry forward to the next stage of this process.
- List your challenges.
What prevented you from achieving the tasks and goals you listed in Step 2? They may be areas of personal growth (blocks such as lack of focus, procrastination, poor time management, self-confidence issues) insufficient resources (including time), lack of specific skills in certain areas. Were you over-ambitious in what you expected to achieve in the time available?
This is definitely not a ‘beat yourself up’ exercise. Approach this with honesty and self-awareness so you can address the areas that need work in order to achieve your next year’s goals.
Finish With Focus on Self-Love and Gratitude
Before you finish, put down your notebook and sit quietly for a few minutes. Breathe deeply, relax and feel into the gratitude for your achievements and the insights that will lead to an outstanding year ahead. Love yourself and celebrate everything you’ve done, for learning the lessons and meeting the challenges throughout the year. Love yourself for committing to this process and believe that next year is going to be your best year ever.
In Step 2 we’ll move on to developing your vision and intentions for the next 12 months.
We’d love you to share your results and your comments on how this process works for you.
