Beyond Negativity: Andean Cosmology, Synchronicity and Shamanism

Teri DluznieskiHow does one know when we are in Ayni, or harmony, with our world and our life? Is synchronicity a valid feedback tool? If things are going smoothly and working out for us- is that a sign that this is what we should be doing?  Or do we selectively choose when to apply this feedback? Do we blame the universe/ luck/fate, when things do not work out?  Where do we place blame?  And where do we assign credit?

I don’t know that there is any empirical test by which to assess when Life is working out. When  is synchronicity a part of things that just unfold, versus things we have created around ourselves. Sometimes I think we can know. Other times, it isn’t quite so easy. Maybe having an answer about synchronicity isn’t as important as asking the questions?  What is important…?? How do we know..?

Learning how to figure this out, can be part of the process. Part of this means that we need to apply this for “taking credit” as much as “assigning blame.” Maybe I didn’t cause all of the good things that seem to be falling in my lap.. but even that can serve as a starting point- the examination of things… the questioning.  That process helps us step into awareness, and question where we are in terms of being in energetic integrity. And note, energetic integrity isn’t about blame or fault.

Example, ‘did I accidentally leave a window open?’:.. does not mean I meant for the burglar to break into the house. But it might indicate that I am leaving gaps or openings by which non-benevolent energy can become opportunistic.

Energetic integrity is equally about our intent, as it is about structural integrity. Do I have good edges and boundaries? Note: this is a literal-energetic, not a mental-emotional construct. The energy bubble is your sacred house, and has structure like a cell, which has a membrane that protects it. The edges can get compromised, or we may accidentally leave a door open to accommodate a friend, that gets  hijacked by something less friendly.  From this understanding- there is something concrete to address.   It doesn’t matter what caused the opening- let’s get it closed.

Dealing with blame and credit:

I would say that it is in the framing and presentation. I know when I do healing work with clients, sometimes they will ask what it IS that goes on. What happens during healing?  HOW does it work?   Maybe there are angels that step in and heal; maybe there is energetic resonance and I-we-they are able to re-calibrate and tune something, or maybe it is a psychological “sacred drama” that allows the deep levels of the brain to resolve and release. Ultimately, with healing ceremony, we don’t need to claim credit, or ascertain with certainty WHAT it is that transpires.  SOMETHING happens. Change and shift follow.

I would imagine a similar paradigm/perspective (?) applies for helping clients process. WHAT we choose to call it, or how we define/ identify it… SOMETHING happened: a job loss, a beating, mugging, death of a loved one (although that is not their karma, just their loss to process- not trying to sound callous here). but ultimately there is an EVENT.

Perhaps a starting point for processing could be about addressing the perception.. delving into the idea of- why did this happen? What does it mean to/ for me…? What Do I  believe about the universe and why things happen? What does this say about where I am, and where do I want to go from here?

I think one of the distinctions, or discrepancies (?).. is that in Andean teachings, they don’t break down the universe into good-bad. There are two essential kinds of energy: Sami and HuchaSami is light refined energy that nourishes, moves us forward. Hucha, on the other hand, is heaviness. it doesn’t serve us. It holds us back or weighs us down. It needs to be released to Pachamama, who can recycle it into Sami. We gift Pachamama with our Hucha. Noting that even in how the hucha is processed does not connote a negative aspect.

It is an entire paradigm shift. Ultimately, it can be very empowering, releasing good-bad, positive-negative etc. Releasing blame and judgement allows us to observe dispassionately, and with wise compassion.  We can assess, decide what is our best soul-path, and move forward on the path that unfolds under our feet.  It is a way of learning how to stand on the higher points of our inner landscapes, so that we can see what lies ahead.  This isn’t the same as trying to be psychic.  It is more like scouting ahead:  which of the various options, or paths, appears the most appealing.   Peeking ahead is like reading the descriptions on the back cover of books.  Without this awareness, we are picking books randomly.  The awareness allows us to get a better idea of what this book, this story, might contain.

Is this synchronicity? Does synchronicity naturally begin to follow in the path of awareness? Do we just take success as a barometer? In some ways, it is a less important question, once we can step beyond negativity.  Everything is just an opportunity for an experience.  Like rides at a playground: and we choose the difficulty-level of the ones we want to play with.  The universe is there, helping, watching, patiently waiting, while we become wiser.

I am an Education Specialist, Health Coach and Author. I work with aspects of the teachings I have learned from Andean shamanic and cosmology, to health, nutrition and education.  Everything is energy. Energy must flow. Like water, when it does not flow, it stagnates and is not healthy. These techniques help your life to flow. I have been initiated into many of the ancient lineages and learned ceremonies, rites of passage and healing techniques.  I have worked as a healer and done workshops and taught some of these aspects – passing the teachings on.
